The Orphanage
We are awaiting the grant of land from the Stellenbosch Municipality on which we can build the orphanage. You can see a picture of the land we are hoping to be granted on the right.
Our plan, when we have the land, is to split the building into four separate homes, each being a self contained unit. Each home will house 6-10 orphans and a house mother, ensuring the children receive the best care they can as an individual, rather than being a number in a large dormitory style building.
After we have got the homes up and running, our vision is to partner the orphanage with a number of others around the world and encourage exchange visits between them. This process would be hugely beneficial to the orphans of the township as it will demonstrate to them that a world exists beyond the borders of their own country and certainly outside of their township. We firmly believe that this would be extremely valuable in the healing process, enabling them to grow and develop with the drive and ambition one takes for granted in other children of their age. It would also be enlightening to the children from the more economically developed countries to experience life in the more rural or deprived areas of the world.
We are, however, developing an interim plan to place the orphans in homes with families willing to take them in and then provide grants to the families for their upkeep.
