Serenity Foundation Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Is the situation really that bad in Kayamandi? Is there really a need for the Serenity Foundation orphanage? What is the scale of the problem?
A.The situation is huge in scale and no one has yet tried to tackle it effectively and as it has hit the point where it becomes a self-perpetuating cycle, the need has never been more urgent.

Q.How many children are you hoping to help?
A.As many as possible (it will probably run into 100’s)

Q. You can’t house all of them so how will you decide which ones you’ll help?
A. We will deal with it on a case by case basis

Q.Why aren’t the South African government doing something about this?
A.They are trying to do something, but they recognise that the problem is so large that they need outside assistance, and so have promised to support and help any organisation that will help in this area

Q.How will you use my donation – how much money does the Serenity Foundation need?
A.Initially all the money will be used to build the orphanage, after that it will be used for the upkeep of the orphanage, feeding, clothing and looking after the children 

Q.Who will be looking after the children in the orphanage?
A.There will be permanent staff living at the orphanage who will look after the children’s pastoral care needs.  There will also be day staff who will help to look after the children.  It is hoped that most staff will be from the local community

Q.Can I volunteer?
A.People who are interested in volunteering should forward us their details by email and we will be in touch as soon as we can

Q.How can I help?
A.At the moment we are in need of donations of any size to help us get the orphanage built.  Every donation can make a huge difference, no matter how small, so please dig deep and donate anything you can spare.  We have partnered up with Just Giving, to lower our admin costs and ensure that as much of you donation goes towards the project as possible
We will hopefully be set up to accept volunteers in the near future, so please do email your details and we will get straight back to you with an acknowledgment and details as soon as we have them

Q.How much of my donation will go to helping the kids?
A.All of it.  Apart from administrative and running costs, none of the money you donate will be used for purposes other than the orphanage and associated projects.
